2012 RALLY
Date Posted: January 03, 2012

ANY NEWS ON 2012 RALLY ?

Not yet, We are working on it.

Posted by: BRUCE

Ride to Remember Jonelle (Jody) James
Date Posted: August 25, 2011

Jody James was the driving force behind the rally in Sturgis, Ms. She led the ride of 12 bikers in 1995 to begin what is now known as Sturgis South Motorcycle Rally. The rally was her passion and even in her weakened state, she never missed a rally. She was behind the scenes at every rally. Jody passed away in June after a lengthy illness. A Ride To Remember and memorial service has been planned for Oct. 8, 2011. We will have a ride from Vineyard Church in Flowood, Ms. to Sturgis. KSU leaving the church at 9:00 A.M. Memorial service will be at the pavilion upon arrival from Flowood. Probably around 11-11:30, biker time... a flyer is forth coming. The service is open to all... Come and share your favorite story about Jody or just come and learn about the First Lady of Sturgis. A love offering will be taken at the end of the service in Jody's memory. Funds will be given to her favorite charity as determined by Leland James and Arthur Russell. Plan your ride from where ever you live to Sturgis and say a farewell to the First Lady of Sturgis. Look for to seeing you all.

re-think the ralley
Date Posted: August 18, 2011

im not surprised that this years ralley has been cancelled. its decline over the last several years should have raised a flag to the community.high vendor cost, high registration fees for very little entertainment. check out the other small rallies and figure out how they draw in the crowds. understanding the lifestyle might help some.

Hate rally was canceled
Date Posted: August 15, 2011

I hate the rally had to be canceled but think about this. I know that the concerts cost a lot but with things like they are and money so tight for everybody. Why not try two arm bands one for the day events and one for the concerts. Then maybe funds wouldn't be so short and the rally could go on.

Cancel
Date Posted: August 15, 2011

This is crazy. Do they realize how much revenue Sturgis and the surrounding towns will lose? People will come. They always do.

Posted by: K F

They Will Come
Date Posted: August 11, 2011

there will be a great crowd there this year... i have spoken with many out of towners that are planning to come... most people just rather pay when they get there... also, they teen agers should not be allowed to drive their trucks up and down the streets this year.... it's a bike rally... not a truck rally.. please don't cancel.... we will have a GREAT crowd this year... I'm sure of it.....

We are sure that they will come. The problem is will the ones that come, PAY.

The count
Date Posted: August 11, 2011

We are at 208, not even half of what we are asking for. Give us half so we can have something to work with????

Posted by: Smith Rabun

What is the count?
Date Posted: August 10, 2011

What is the count up to for preregistering for the rally? When is the deadline for preregistering?

208 Drop dead date is 08/15/11

Date Posted: August 09, 2011

whats the deal on cancelling rally ? never had to prepay as a requirement for the rally being put on before?

Judge Rules - There Can Only Be One Sturgis
Date Posted: June 08, 2011

This worries me. I have attended the Sturgis South Rally for a few years and would hate to see our rally closed due to a law suit. I guess that I am looking for some reassurance that our rally is safe.

The Rally in Sturgis, MS will go on as long as the people support it. The biggest problem facing the Rally in Sturgis, MS is paid attendance. The name may change!

will there be a thurs nite concert this year ?

At the present time there are no plans for a Thursday night concert. The cost to do a Thursday night event compared to the income from the Thursday night event has caused us to decide not to have the Thursday night concert.

Hey, A few suggestions for the entertainment for 2011. Whiskey Falls, Luke Bryan, Chris Young, and Hank Jr. these would be a good idea to give a show at Sturgis for 2011. Mix a little old school with a little new school and the fans should have a blast.

I think the date change will help alot.No one should able to say it's to hot. Now with a little less police and a great band lineup and were all set. Hope everyone can make it.

Please change the date!!
Date Posted: November 15, 2010

This would be a very welcome change. The heat is exhausting at times to say the least. As long as the timing doesn't coinside with any home games for the Dawgs. Traffic would be horrible. I do have a few questions, Security? My gosh it was awful, the amount. We're not that bad are we? Also, there were two guys dressed as retired Hooters women walking around. People were having a blast with them, taking pictures, ect. One woman out of allllll the people there took offense to it, reported it to security and they were asked to quit. Don't ask the hundreds of people that were enjoying them how they felt, just pacify this one woman. If she didn't want to see this kind of extremely mellow humor, then stay home. Nothing against Security, except maybe use some common sense. The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. Sorry to complain.

I hate the heat but love football. October is great. Just dont make it on a home game weekend. It would also make it harder to get a room.

We had a blast this year,But we always do. The rain was a pain, thank God it wasn't much.Allie loves seeing her old friends.Hope to have the trike set up for her a little better in 2011, so she can ride more, hope to see ya'll there

Date of 2011 Rally
Date Posted: November 01, 2010

I like the idea of it being changed to October, BUT not for it to be held in Starkville. Would not be the same. I like the idea of Oct 8th and the weekend of no MS State home game that weekend. I have heard several say they would come but cannot take the heat. I know I can't handle it like I used to.

Posted by: Linda Rose

Cooler weather
Date Posted: October 31, 2010

Really enjoy the event s!nce !t !s so close to home, however we were unable to stay very long due to the heat. The event should be held when the weather !s cooler. ! real!ze ! may be wh!pp!ng a dead horse but the heat coupled w!th no cold beer keeps many away.

Rally Dates
Date Posted: October 22, 2010

October or April would be great. Make it when MSU is not playing a home football/baseball game so hotels would be available.

October Rally
Date Posted: October 22, 2010

Love the idea of the rally being held in October. I think the turn out would be better. Several people have told me if it was held in cooler weather they would attend.

Date change
Date Posted: October 18, 2010

It does not matter what date the rally is I will be there. This past year was my Sixth year in a row. I hope to make it as many year as I am alive. Had a great time.

Posted by: Mike

Another great year
Date Posted: October 01, 2010

We had a blast again this year. This was our first rally, starting in 2004 and may be our only rally ever, especially if the finances don't get better. Anyway...my only complaint for this year would be all the Rv's and trailers parked ON the sidewalk behind the bathroom/showers. You had to walk in the grass (and mudd) to get to the doors. I understand people would like to get as close to the fence as possible, but to park ON the sidewalks seemed a bit inconsiderate to me. Other than that aggravation, it was another awesome time for us. I still wouldn't trade this rally for any other. You guys always put on a great show. Thanks !!!!

i didnt go to the rally this year because of the extreme heat. i cant physically handle that heat. security dont bother me at all.

Posted by: Joye

Re-schedule
Date Posted: September 05, 2010

The heat was INTENSE. If the rally could be post poned for another month when it cools a little. It would be a great event. I bet more folks would come out too.

Rally 2010
Date Posted: August 31, 2010

I agree, the crowd count seemed to really be lower this year. We camp in the park area and usually about concert time, there are hundreds of bikes parked out in front of us and by the restroom area. Not this year. Some may have stayed away because of the rain....
Did not care for the carnival either. Parking and traffic is bad enough without that. The entertainment was okay. Not spectacular but Crossin Dixon was great. The year we all saw 38 Special was the best one yet !!!!
Lots of cops and some have a bad attitude since they are in uniform.
Still had a good time but I sure hope that the rally is not moved to Starkville. Will kill it for sure.
Just have to wait and see about the entertainment for next year before we decide if we are attending or not.

Sturgis 2010!!!
Date Posted: August 26, 2010

We had a great time at the rally this year! Other than the heat and the rain, we had fun catching up with old friends. The bands were a bit of a disappointment but I hope we can get a better line up next year! As for all the rumors about moving the rally, I hope the board doesn't vote to have it moved. Coming to Sturgis is part of the fun. My husband and I ended up talking to some of the homeland security guys and they were really allot nicer than we expected them to be. There was allot of talk about them being a bunch of jerks but I tell you what. We were coming back from Starkville and our bike broke down. Do you know that we probably had over a hundred bikes pass us, and no telling how many cars, but the only person that stopped to check on us was one of those force protection guys. I don't know much but I do know, that by itself made it worth whatever they paid them to be there.

Weather and bands
Date Posted: August 24, 2010

Weather is to hot in August need to move to September when it gets cooler. What was up with the main attraction bands only playing for 1 hour. Was dissapointed with Bad Company and Diamond Rio.
They did cut it short a little bit. But sometimes we have no control on that.

Posted by: BJ

Force Protection ..... real waste of tax payer money.
Date Posted: August 24, 2010

We have been to the rally for several years and this was by far the worst. More cops than people on Wednesday....and what allows them to sit on their 4-wheelers or gators and get intoxicated in uniform and then spout off to people walking by about drinking. The Sturgis Rally is going to be a thing of the past if this is not handled. About 15 good cops could patrol the rally. The number of cops this year made the motorcycles feel unwelcome and unwanted - I have never seen that many "force patrols" in one place for the rally.......probably won't be back next year if they are..

Posted by: K. Barton - Forest, MS

Dark cloud over Sturgis 2010!
Date Posted: August 21, 2010

So what's up with all the FORCE PROTECTION at the rally? Was something going to happen that we all need protection from? Who's going to protect US from THEM??? The heat didn't dampen our spirit the FORCE did.

The FORCE PROTECTION was something that was forced on the rally staff. We had no say so over the amount of them or what they did other than they were suppose to keep the peace according to our past rules and stipulations. There was to be no changes in the way we operate the rally. Please spread the word for everyone to get on this site and tell their experiences with security and give their opinion for the rally to know how you feel. We know a lot of people want us to have the rally without any security at all but we all know that is not going to happen and we have to make this event safe for everyone that comes and for the town of Sturgis. So please give us some feed back and spread the word to others.

Posted by: Cindy

Moving to Starkville
Date Posted: August 21, 2010

Just for the record...I know ALOT that won't be there..those rocks and motorcycles won't get along and NO shade! Not a good decision!

Please give us your opinion about the dumped. There has been nothing decided yet about this. The rally wants to keep doing what the people want to attend. But the money has to be there to do so.

Posted by: BIGDOG FAN

Homeland Security??
Date Posted: August 19, 2010

You have got to be kidding! HHMMMM Who's footing this bill? Can't wait to hear the reaction from taxpayers!

Please give your opinion about this subject. I can tell you that this was not the rally's bill nor was it the rally's idea. The rally board was told they would be there and that was it. We had no choice in this matter. Please make your opinion known to the rally staff through this forum and through email so that we can have the documentation to show why the attendance was down.

Great Rally!
Date Posted: August 18, 2009

This was our first time and we REALLY enjoyed it except for the heat! It was easy to find with the little signs leading the way & thanks to my lovely gps. Just had to ask where to find the stage. GREAT line-up Saturday night! I had seen all 3 before and knew I couldn't miss this. Loved the races and events on the field Saturday and the camp area was nice. Food was great and very reasonable! We stayed under the pavilion most of the day. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and we had a great time! We're definitely coming back next year! Thanks!

Date Posted: August 17, 2009

We were pre-registered as we are every year. I called to see if I could get my armband at the entrance to the park since we were camping there. I was told we could, but guess what. They would not let me park my vehicle anywhere close to the railroad track and I was told by the female working the r/r track that I had to go to the main registration tent to get my arm band since I was pre-registered. Everyone needs to be on the same page!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, trying to leave Saturday night, we were told very shortly by a security person, that this street is closed and we should not be pulling up here. If the cross streets are closed to traffic, they should be blocked on both ends. We were just trying to leave to go home.
Some of the people that are working are great but some of them seem to have an attitude just cause they have on a security vest.

Please call me with your complaint and I will do what is needed to solve the problem.

2009 rally had lots of bikes!
Date Posted: August 15, 2009

Great rally. There were a lot of bikes there but where were the bathrooms on main street? I didn't see any. Tea was $5 a glass. Sure was good with the heat though.

Where the party is at!!
Date Posted: July 30, 2009

For those of you that are looking for a place to stay, No Cur-Fue is a great campground on Sturgis Maben Rd. It is on the Ackerman side of Main Street, just before you get downtown. The people there are a lot of fun. JJ, the owner, is a super guy and goes out of his way to be sure everyone has a good time. It has 30+/- rv slots with water and power. There are hot showers for tent campers. They also have a swimming hole with a slip-n-slide, a zip line, and a diving board for staying cool. I will definitely be staying there again this year. If you need some info, email JJ at jerry.hunt@ARS.USDA.GOV
See you soon!!

No Curfew Campground was awesome!
Date Posted: July 30, 2009

We had shade, a swimming hole with 40' slide into the water, a zip line into the water, floating pier and dive board. The camp was much quieter than the others in town and only one mile from Hwy 14, turn at the school at the edge of town. We loved it. It is the Coolest Place at the rally, bar none.

Rooms
Date Posted: July 29, 2009

Vendors
Date Posted: July 29, 2009

For HAD A BLAST and KB: It was very obvious to me about the vendors being fewer last year as well, so I started asking some of those who came. They said that the prices that They had to pay for set-up and staying the whole rally had gotten so high that some were losing money and most were just barely breaking even. Now, I know some ppl like to "poor-mouth" but I just found out that the prices DO seem a bit steep even when the vendors charge fairly high prices themselves. One old man said it sounds like the crooks complaining about being robbed.

Saturday Night Concert
Date Posted: July 27, 2009

I just wanted to ask about how the show is done..is it general admission(as in sit anywhere you want), bring your own chairs type deal? And what is the earliest time to get there for the show..what time do gates open for it?

Really excited about the entertainment...they're all amazing and can't beat seeing them at this price all on the same stage! And can't wait to see all of those bikes! Thanks.

Bring your lawn chair as there is no seating and it is first come first serve. The gates are open all week so if you want to come and camp out that is fine...

getting revved up for 2009
Date Posted: May 11, 2009

I want to thank the people who work hard putting the rallies together. The time and work you do for us to just enjoy our selves is appreciated. We have been camping in the park for too many years to count. our group grows more every year because we can't stop talking about the rally when we get back. The 2008 rally was the very best of them all. The entertainment, the vendors, and the people were all great. We hated to see it end. Thank you Sturgis for having us.

Registration fee
Date Posted: March 19, 2009

Marina, There is one thing the registration does not cover...the Poker run/dice run. The rally is WELL worth your 35.00. You'd pay that ( more actually) for just one concert at an arena somewhere. Granted you'd have air conditioning there, but.... I don't think you'll be disappointed.

WORST PLACE TO STAYThe rally needs to take it off their list of accomodations.
Date Posted: March 04, 2009

Last year we made the mistake of staying at the ??????? Room was filty, holes in walls, we slept on top of the covers and still itched all night. Sink, toilet & tub all had rust stains and the sink and tub were also covered in soap scum. Plus the shower didn't work, so we couldn't even clean up. Motel manager wouldn't give us a refund either. Complaining to the Mayor & Health Dept. did no good.

We are truely sorry about your, should we say lack of civilization, but the only way we have to find out about these things are through your reports. And we thank you for your support of our Rally. So with your report, it is taken care of.

HMMMM
Date Posted: September 08, 2008

Well, as I have said before , I had a good time this year, though the smaller number of vendors was disappointing. However...my husband...who is not a country music fan...said he didn't enjoy it much this year. He made the comment that we should maybe try a different rally next year. I explained to him that I thought his disappointment was simply because his music preference is more geared to Rock, and maybe the vendor thing would be better again next year. I hope he doesn't make me miss the one place I want to go next year. Maybe more variety in the music might help bring some of the people back, who didn't make it this year. Just a thought.

Security and Traffic...!
Date Posted: September 05, 2008

Not much one can do about traffic on main st. and i would say 75-80% of the traffic are motorcycles and thats a good thing,i didnt see the traffic as a problem at all.As for security i say..."THUMBS UP"....for a great job,i have a hard time believing folks are crying about traffic and security but the ones doing so are a very small group.I say keep doing what you are doing, this isa great bike fest!!

Posted by: Elvis Hog....Rosine,Kentucky

Security...
Date Posted: September 01, 2008

Gripe all you want about security. The first time you needed them, and they couldn't get to you because they were in patrol cars, guess who would be griping. Get a grip. They did a great job!

Great Rally but.....
Date Posted: August 29, 2008

The rally was a great time again this year. This was my 7th year attending. I was disappointed that there were not many vendors as has been in the past. Also, is there anyway the traffic can be put to a minimum on main street? Especially the teenagers riding back and forth all through the rally? They have no respect for us bikers. Parking and pulling the bike out on the street was almost impossible for all the cars coming through. Can there not be an alternate route for through traffic??? This would be safer for the bikers after all it is a bike rally...

Posted by: concerned biker

I AGREE
Date Posted: August 25, 2008

Im with Electra 48 and anyone else who thinks "security" is out of control.I can deal with a logging truck,it has brake lights ,and alot of the golf carts, dunebuggys or 4-wheeler dont.Put "security" in lifeguard like stands all around town. You say it may be too hot.Try setting in traffic with your helment on and both feet on the ground in 100+ degree weather, meanwhile "security" blast pass you on an atv with nothing but a basebll cap on .Only toooo pass them later as they are stopped shooting the breeze, in the way. Please see what can be done C-YA next year.

We will work on this. I am going to meet with the head of security and discuss this issue. We cut back on security quite a bit this year. But we still need the security to get from point A to point B quickly and to be able to escort bands and all thru the traffic. But I assure you that we are going to do all in our power to make the rally more enjoyable for all who come to this event.

I want to say, thank you to all the Rally Board Members, I know there are some of you that put tireless time and effort into this rally., and for what benefit, I don't know, other than you enjoy doing it. Your effort is very much appreciated and I hope everyone that looks at this message board understands that. I missed Scotty and Laura this year, They've always been great but the rest of you piked up the slack and did great. Just want my appreciation to be known, but please, do something about the security issue.See you next year, (I Hope)

Date Posted: August 21, 2008

great rally this year, but i have to agree with Electra48,the golf carts and 4-wheelers "security" is out of hand, had to stop for them just sitting in the street talking several times, just way to many of em runnin around.i know this has been brought up in years past, hopefully something can be done about next year.
otherwise it was a great rally

Date Posted: August 19, 2008

Another wonderful time in Sturgis.
I agree with KB though, that the missing vendors hurt. I personally know of two that I was looking for... my parts people weren't there, so I didn't get to buy the only two things I wanted.
Weather was great... just about froze at night with our fans. LOL Merle Haggard was awesome. Couldn't have been a better replacement for Terri Clark.
I'll be anxiously looking for next year's dates as well...to make it number 6 for us.

2008 Rally
Date Posted: August 19, 2008

Rally not what is has been in the past. TOO much trouble for bike riders to get in and out. Rally focused more now on money for the city - not just for bikers who also pay a whooping dollar to be tere.

The rally is not focused on money for the town but for the charities and to pay for the rally itself.

Great Rally
Date Posted: August 18, 2008

2 Things -
1. Please tell the City of Starkville, that this was THE BEST the city cops and campus police have ever done blocking traffic for the dinner ride..Please tell them how much they are appreciated for this..Past few years have been terrible riding through Starkville on the dinner ride

2. Please don't let the new mayor in town destroy this rally...you could really see a difference this year with everything, entertainment, security, and vendors, all due to the new mayor not wanting this rally to happen. Please work this out, for better turnouts in the future...

2008 Rally
Date Posted: August 18, 2008
